Mother's Day Gift Guide

Stuck for a mother's day gift?

Fed up of buying the same old bath set that you think your mother loves year after year?

Or simply just want some fresh ideas to give you a head start?

Look no further, here's a little guide to some items I think would make the perfect Mother's Day Gift.

First of all, make sure you have a card sorted. You don't want to be on the end of a disappointed phonecall come Sunday when your mum thinks you have forgotten all about her. Moonpig / Funkypigeon are your easiest options as they save you time in going to the Post Office to buy a stamp. If you want to go all out and personal, make your own card, with mums it really is the thought that counts.

Secondly, if you're planning on buying a token gift to show how much you appreciate your lovely mother, you need to make sure it's something she wants, and not a cheap teddy bear branded 'best mum in the whole wide world' that looks like you panicked and picked it up from your local petrol station. You can try one of the following ideas, or just have a think back to some subtle hints your mother may have been making to you over the last fortnight.

1 - All girls like flowers, and mum's are certainly no exception. If you want extra brownie points, buy a vase and some water pearls (Available for 99p here) and construct the whole affair yourself.

2 - Remember all of those times you went on holiday as a child? Or how your mum was always waiting at the exact time you finished your swimming lessons etc? These were no doubt planned right down to the last minute, as mum's are almost always the organiser of the family. Filofax are pretty much the leaders of the diary marketplace (Did I really just type that?) and last a lifetime. Find the Adelphi Organiser here.

3 - You can't go wrong with some posh confectionery to give your mummy a treat, so pick up some Charbonnel Et Walker Crèmes Parisiennes here for only £9.00.

4 - In my experience, all mothers love Cath Kidston, and a teapot is a staple item in all kitchens which sometimes gets overlooked. Tell your mum to throw away her old one and treat her by picking up this pretty floral 'Spray Flowers' print pot here.

5 - If you have a mother who is in need of a bit of pampering, look no further than Jo Malone. If I'm honest, you can pick up anything here but if you're stuck, the English Pear and Freesia Body Crème is sure to go down a treat.

6 - One thing mum's do not want on mother's day are tacky, love declaring items which will be shoved to the back of the cupboards to be never seen again. One thing mum's do like is a pretty personalised mug, which they can show off knowing that it a) handmade and b) "designer". Emma Bridgewater is a huge favourite of mine when it comes to pottery and crockery, so check out this beautiful mug here.

9 - Last but not least is my wild card purchase. This is 100% based on my own mother, and something I know she dreams of displaying in her kitchen. If this sounds anything like your own mum, or there is something you know she really, really wants, consider going all out there and splurging to give her the ultimate present. Unfortunately the thing my mother wants is quite pricey at £112.00, but what can I say... Like mother like daughter ey? Find the Battersea Clock by Newgate here.

I hope this post has given you some new ideas and started your train of thought for Mother's Day!

  2. Great post! Every year I give my mam a calender for the kitchen which I make on snapfish with loads of family photos and she loves it! :) really want to get her the teapot now though but she says she wants a new kitchen before she gets nice new kitchen stuff...don't think a new kitchen is quite in my budget! :P X
